The Movie

The history of the African American patriot stretches longer than the history of the United States Army. It covers time even before there was an America to serve and protect. The hard work and sacrifices that African American servicemen and women have made are chronicled in the pages of our history books, and continues to shape history in the thoughts, words, and actions of revolutionaries, visionaries, and in the dreams of generations today and to come. It is with great pride, respect, and admiration for African American servicemen and women that the United States Army has chosen to sponsor For Love of Liberty: The Story of America’s Black Patriots.

For Love of Liberty presents the history of this great country through the eyes of those whose experiences often went, and still often go untold. It showcases the incredible virtue, unrelenting determination, and unrivaled selflessness of generation after generation of African Americans with unquestionable historical accuracy and tangible passion. It is a message that must be shared with the America of today, but most importantly, it is a message that must be shared with the America of tomorrow. Young people across the nation in schools and universities must be aware of the price African Americans paid for liberty, and the part African American’s paid, and still pay for its preservation. Utilizing its unique resources and dedication to the promotion of education and diversity across America, the United States Army intends to share For Love of Liberty with the American people in an effort to remind them that freedom is not free, and that through the heroism of those who fought and sacrificed before us, we can forge a future as bright as the one America’s founding fathers envisioned when they wrote the words that created a Nation.

By sponsoring For Love of Liberty, the Army embraces the unique opportunity to give America the chance to experience the military through the eyes of men and women who have served while guiding their eye to those men and women who serve today. It is an opportunity to pay tribute and give thanks and recognition to countless American patriots who have shaped our nation’s Army, and indeed, our nation, itself.
